Learn how to use a digital camera (DSLR) or a film camera (SLR)

Thank you for visiting.

If you haven’t already visited the ME section of this site, allow me to introduce myself. I am a creative producer with a background in photography (digital and film), video editing and motion graphics. I also do a little coding when I have the time. I’ve been a photographer for almost two decades, 5 years as a news photographer.

I still shoot regularly, mostly with film cameras - 35mm, 120mm and 4x5. Street photography is my favorite way to shoot, but I’m always happy to collaborate on other projects. I also develop my black and white negatives, which is also another class of mine.

INSTRUCTION

Whether you own a Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony or a Pentax camera, I can help you better understand how to use it beyond its auto mode.

If you have a point and shoot camera, you are welcome to take the course, but a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera or a film camera is preferred as you will receive significantly more specific information. (I can also instruct how to use medium format (120/220) film cameras.)

For Units 1 & 2 we will go over the functional basics of cameras and lenses. We will also cover aperture, shutter and ISO settings as well as shooting modes.

In Units 3 & 4 we will cover composition and various techniques that will help you take more visually interesting photographs. We will also cover editing programs such as Photoshop and Lightroom and how best to store and organize your photos if we have time.

I hold these classes from my apartment where I live with my wife and two children who will not be an interruption. Total instruction is four hours and it breaks down to two classes at two hours each. Due to some of the technical lingo, I prefer students of 15 years of age and higher. One guardian per minor is allowed to attend.

I can only manage 5 students at once, so please let me know if the hours below do not work with you, we can figure something else out.

In the form below, I’d love to know a little more about you and your availability.
